Dexcom built its business over two decades supplying prescription continuous glucose monitors to people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and the company’s clinical credibility in that market is a large part of why Stelo’s move into general wellness carries more weight than a typical consumer nutrition app. Rather than launching a glucose-adjacent wellness product from scratch, Dexcom is extending an existing regulatory relationship with the FDA and an established manufacturing and sensor supply chain into a much larger addressable market of health-conscious consumers who don’t have diabetes.

The ambassador choice of Mike Golic Sr. also signals where Dexcom sees its next growth audience: not people managing a diagnosed condition, but sports-and-fitness-minded consumers who might never have considered a glucose sensor relevant to them. What Stelo added

The centerpiece of the update, called Enhanced Smart Food Logging, lets users log meals through text search, barcode scanning, or photo capture, drawing on a nutrition database of more than one million food options to estimate calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat, dietary fiber, and other macronutrients. A redesigned Daily Insights feature uses a card-based interface to deliver three personalized recommendations each day, built to connect a user’s meals, activity, and sleep to their glucose trends rather than presenting numbers in isolation.

Dexcom has said that after 30 days of use, a majority of Stelo users report positive changes in dietary and eating patterns, based on the company’s own data rather than an independent peer-reviewed study. That distinction matters: unlike Dexcom’s prescription CGMs, which have extensive clinical literature behind their use in diabetes care, the metabolic benefit of glucose-based nutrition coaching for people without diabetes is less thoroughly studied, and some endocrinologists have cautioned that normal, harmless glucose fluctuations after meals can be misread by healthy users as problems requiring intervention.

Dexcom said the nationwide rollout of the enhanced food-logging features across iOS and Android was set to happen within weeks of the February announcement, with a more thoroughly redesigned Stelo app planned for later in 2026. As GLP-1 medications reshape consumer interest in metabolic health, Dexcom’s bet is that pairing its established glucose-sensing hardware with AI-driven nutrition coaching can capture a wellness-focused customer base well beyond its traditional diabetes market — putting it in more direct competition with wearable and app-based nutrition tools like Noom and MyFitnessPal’s newly acquired Cal AI technology.
